Cancellation policy

Whilst we are aware that last minute mishaps and events do happen and you may have to cancel your appointment, but please be aware that we have a cancellation policy. We often have waiting lists of patients that are desperately in need of treatment. It is a real shame when we have wasted appointments and have to incur the overhead costs of gaps in appointment schedule.

  • Cancellations with 24 hours notice will not incur a cancellation charge.
  • Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will usually incur a charge of £20. Repeated late cancellations may incur the full cost of the missed treatment.

Procedure

Microsuction

Microsuction ear wax removal is undertaken using a microscope and a medical suction device. Firstly the blockage is visualised using an otoscope. A very thin wand type fitting is then fitted to the end of the suction tube which allows the gentle removal of the ear wax from your canal.  This extremely precise process tends to take around 15-30 minutes.

- suitable for mastoid cavities and perforated eardrums

Irrigation

Ear irrigation is carried out using specialised equipment. The ear irrigator allows safe, comfortable and effective ear wax removal of deep soft wax attached to the eardrum by utilising its gentle, pulsating cyclone wash. The procedure usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes.

Dry removal tools

  • Micro cup extra fine forceps may be used to remove foreign bodies, hearing aid domes and skin debris that are more firmly attached within the ear canal
  • Jobsons Horne & St Barts Hook may be used for hard impacted wax

It is common for alternative therapists to offer ear candling, or ear coning, as a method of removing wax build-up and even treating hearing loss. However, the FDA does not recommend this procedure. Ear candling has no proven benefit in producing either of these outcomes, nor has it been shown to treat ear infections or tinnitus problems. It is ineffective and potentially dangerous.
